Roger Flugel, Ph.D.
Principal



Roger Flugel, is a Principal with Sanderling Ventures and has over 12 years of experience in venture capital, consulting, and biomedical research. He has served in a variety of roles as director, board observer, CEO, or management team member of several Sanderling portfolio companies including Xytis, Asteres, TRF Pharma, TheraVida, Kadmus (acquired by Schering-Plough), Aderis (acquired by Schwarz Pharma), and UltraBridge (acquired by CareCentric).

Dr. Flugel's investing activity at Sanderling is focused on early stage opportunities in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, as well as medical devices and healthcare information technologies.

From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Flugel served as the Director of Venture Analysis at HealthCare Ventures. While there, he worked closely with several companies on product strategy and business development.

Prior to HealthCare Ventures, Dr. Flugel was a Research Associate with the MEDACorp division of Leerink Swann & Company, a boutique investment bank focused on healthcare and life sciences. At Leerink, he completed a variety of engagements in medical devices, biologics, and pharmaceuticals, for both corporate clients and institutional investors.

Dr. Flugel received a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University, conducting his research in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. While at Harvard, he collaborated with teams from Genetics Institute (Wyeth) and Millennium Pharmaceuticals on antibiotic drug discovery. Dr. Flugel also holds a B.S. in Physics with a minor in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
