Advanced Cardiovascular Systems was a pioneer in the manufacture of percutaneous angioplastic "balloon" catheters. The company was founded in 1981 and aquired by Eli Lilly in 1984 for stock on an earn-out basis. The Company became a leader in its field, commercializing catheters for angioplasty. It was spun off as part of Guidant in 1994.
